Support for Many Conference Types

SmartChair supports conferences, workshops, mini-symposia, and other academic event formats. It also provides a standard review workflow in which reviewers can bid on papers and the system can assist with reviewer assignment.

Collaborative Multi-Role Management

The system supports chairs, organizing committee members, program committee members, reviewers, and participants. Each role has its own permissions, so conference teams can collaborate smoothly inside the same workspace.

Stable and Secure

SmartChair is built on cloud infrastructure for dependable operation and automatic daily backup. It has already supported events with more than a thousand participants while remaining responsive during deadline rush periods.

Services

Responsive Support

Questions during conference preparation or operation can be handled through e-mail, phone, or online messaging. Paid support plans provide more timely help during critical periods.

Free Core Service

The system offers a free basic service level that covers the essential needs of academic conference operation. Technical consulting can be added as a paid service.

Custom System Features

We can also provide customized SmartChair deployments for societies or organizations that want their own dedicated conference management environment.

With a customized deployment, SmartChair can run independently on a designated server, allowing the organization to manage conference opening, data control, and integration with member services.

Multi-Device and Multilingual

The interface adapts to phones, tablets, and desktop screens. SmartChair provides complete Chinese and English support for both domestic and international conferences.

About SmartChair

When Donald Knuth was writing his books, he found that there was no satisfactory tool for scientific typesetting. That insight led to TeX and LaTeX.

 

We had a similar feeling in 2012 while organizing academic conferences: the internet was already mature, but there was still no conference system that felt truly efficient, reliable, and pleasant to use. That was the starting point of SmartChair.

 

Over the last fourteen years, SmartChair has continued to evolve. It began with an AJAX, jQuery, and cloud-based implementation, and gradually became the operational backbone for many academic events. At the same time, the web itself kept changing, from Web 2.0 to cloud-native systems and now to a new generation shaped by AI.

 

Now we have reached another turning point. The original system architecture can no longer carry the needs of the future, so we have made a decision just as important as the one in 2012: a full system rebuild.

Since the beginning of 2026, we have rebuilt SmartChair around modern cloud architecture and AI Agent technology. The new system improves performance and stability, opens the door to richer interactions and future extensions, and delivers complete Chinese-language support for the first time.

 

This upgrade is not only a technical refresh. It is a new departure toward the future. The renewed SmartChair officially launches on April 12, 2026.

We hope it continues to be a dependable tool for academic communication.
